Do you believe graffiti is a crime or a form of Art? 10pts?

I believe it is a form of art because it is expressing ones self. Now that's for some graffiti. But now gang graffiti is wrong. They spread hate.

Graffiti is "soul of the streets"

It all depends on who you are asking. Now, since you are asking me, I say the answer is simply yes. It's both. According to wikipedia.org, graffiti is "the name for images or lettering scratched, scrawled, painted or marked in any manner on property." It is most definitely art seeing as though its a way of expressing one's self, but whether or not it's a crime can depend on where it is and what it means.

Gang graffiti - yes, it's a crime, and most of it serves no purpose other then to create boundaries and territories, but some of it does look cool.

Commissioned graffiti - obviously usually much nicer looking (due to the legality of it, one can take their time on a piece). definitely not a crime, because it's legal.

Any other graffiti - really, it all depends on the location. I personally don't think it is that terrible of a thing when one tags an advertisement or corporate anything, because they are essentially tagging our cities with ridiculous marketing campaigns and ads anyways, and it's not personally affecting any one person. Now, if you are going to throw something up on the side of a house or small business, it suddenly enters the realm of being downright wrong – someone has to personally pay for and fix that problem, and whether it is art or not, it is vandalism and that person has to fix it themselves.

So, to sum it up, the answer is yes. it is both, it just depends on the situation. after all, if someone is sitting on their ass at their own home and hitting a bong, its illegal, but its not hurting anyone so is it really that bad? but if you have a million dollar grow op and you have guns and are ditching out on taxes and basically don't exist on 'the grid' anymore, then yeah you are getting a little ridiculous and possibly dangerous. hopefully that analogy makes sense.
