Hip Graffiti Jazz What do you think about this article on the global spread of Hip Hop culture?
"Not since the advent of swing jazz in the 1930s has an American music exploded across the world with such overwhelming force. Not since the Beatles invaded America and Elvis packed up his blue suede shoes has a music crashed against the world with such outrage. This defiant culture of song, graffiti, and dance, collectively known as hip-hop, has ripped popular music from its moorings in every society it has permeated."
". In Brazil, rap rivals samba in popularity. In China, teens spray-paint graffiti on the Great Wall. In France it has been blamed, unfairly, for the worst civil unrest that country has seen in decades.
Am I supposed to believe that hip hop has changed the world? Well Im sure it has influenced many around the world, but so have many other forms of music, thats what music does. But you seem to believe hip hop or rap is some type of overwhelming force or something, nah, it still has really low numbers compared to other forms of music. Backstreet boys have sold more records worldwide than any rap/hip hop artist, whats that say??
What I do think it says is that much of the hardcore rap/hip hop has a bad influence. When you listen to music full of hate and disrespect, the youth tend to live it out. I never seen a kid listen to some bubblegum pop music and decide to go out and start shanking random people for fun..
