Graffiti Train Art
Selling photos of graffiti?
I don't know if this is more of a legal question or an ethics question, but.... This person: http://www.absolutegallery.net/Features/scieszka/portfolio.php makes money selling (poorly captured) photos of graffiti art on trains. It's NOT his art, yet he is making big bucks off of it (or trying to, at least). Isn't this illegal? Not the graffiti (and please spare me your opinions on graffiti), the fact that this guy is making a profit by selling art that is not his. It seems like art theft or copyright infringement, since he definitely does not have the artists' permission to use their work.
This is absolutely not illegal. The artwork was originally illegal, so the artists have no rights.
They have also not copyrighted their work by definition, so they would have to complain on an individual basis, and maybe get recompense if they can argue in front of a civil court that they have taken some sort of monetary loss, which would be impossible given it is an act of vandalism in the first place.
Also, a photograph is not the same as a copy of the artwork, so it doesn't count anyway. And them being poorly copied means even a real peice of artwork would probably not be able to argue, let alone illegal artwork.

P.S.- It is illegal under Federal law for criminals to in anyway profit from their crimes, so them suffering monetary loss would be a moot argument in court.

Graffiti Art on a Train: A Whole Car
Does anyone out there collect train graffiti?
I just took a picture of some awesome art on a train last week and wondered if anyone collects this kind of thing.
I don't know of anyone doing this but google "graffiti photos" and there are several sites around the world. It could be considered a folk art collection. Document the location/time/train number/route.
