Different Graffiti Styles

Trying out graffiti in order to show I have range?
i have a huge passion for art, and i'm talented too. i'm confident in my work, so my portfolio got critiqued by gala owners from San Francisco and they gave me some really great advice. one of the critics was a underground graffiti artist who's been hugely successful, he complimented my work and gave me some compliments but randomly told me he'd like to see me try some graffiti? he said it'll really help with perspective and dimension and give it a raw street style, which is kind of what my stuff is but more tweaked out academic art mixed with 1950's cartoon. i don't really like graffiti.. i think street art is a little ridiculous.. i don't really see myself progressing with it as the style is so different from what i'm used too but at the same time i don't want to cut short, i want to show universities i have range. i know i'd pick it up extremely quickly, so would it be worth giving it a shot?
i wouldn't tag, thats not really my thing. thanks!
Of course it'd be worth giving a shot!
I went to Mexico during winter break and while some graffiti looked, well, crappy, a lot of it looked really really beautiful.
Plus, you might run into more successful graffiti artists... I'm sure you'd impress them if you could do graffiti.
Some of these are pretty good too(:
