Do feminists believe it is wrong to say a picture looks like a woman?
I picked up a pack of stickers which were promotional material for some cause or the other and asked the people in the room if anyone knew what it was for. The picture on the sticker was almost like stencil graffiti and depicted a face with long hair and a scar under one eye. No one knew what it was for.
I said, it looks like a drawing of a woman with a scar under her eye (which to me is exactly what the picture was) at which point another person in the room attacked me for being sexist.
Is it wrong when trying to describe a depiction of someone to mention apparent gender? I may have been wrong, but when guessing anything there is a chance you may be wrong yet that doesn't make it prejudice.
Haha. Definitely not. If you thought it looked like a woman, then that was your opinion.
Unless you said something like "this picture looks like a woman.. and women are all c*nts" (which I doubt you did) then, probably. However, if you simply said "hey, this picture looks like a woman", then clearly the person was being an idiot.
By their logic, if you saw a woman and tried to describe them, you'd be being sexist if you mentioned that they were female. You'd then also have to exclude race, height, weight etc, and everything would just get very confusing. Chances are they've just discovered the concept of feminism and are a bit overzealous about the whole thing.
Don't worry, I was once accused of racism in high school for choosing to sit on a light green chair instead of a dark green one >_<
