i want to get into graffiti art but am not sure how, i love drawing and painting and people have always said i'd be good, i just want to let loose on a wall! but i have no idea what to buy in order to start (in terms of spray cans and nozzles and where i should go NOT wanting to make money its for lesiure)...

I personally have a few famous local graffiti artist as friends so...
1. Read up on the HISTORY, learn about the graffiti community, it is a very interesting subculture so study, itll really give u a better understanding of it!

2. Study some famous artist, local artist. (sometimes people will host graffiti shows and you can talk to the artist, etc.)

3. Practice on paper first until your really good. (At least a year.)

4. Practice using spray paint ALOT, it may seem easy but its really not, you need to learn things such as how much pressure to apply to the nozzle, how fast to move the can, which caps to use, etc.

5. Try to find a mentor.

6. More Practice

How to Draw Graffiti People

Is graffiti considered an art form?

is graffiti an art form or like a way of people to exspress their feelings? Or is it just trashy use of spray paint. Should there be more places for artist to draw with out any law stopping them?

I believe graffiti is an art form when it is intended to be seen in that manner. Simply taggin' a wall with a can of paint makes it no more a work art than throwing a tomato at that same wall would be. However, "graffiti" that has color scheme, flair, style and purpose, where the word or image itself has IMPACT or meaning, yeah man, that IS ART!

Some of the best Graffiti (and Graffiti artists) ever, came out of the South Bronx and Brooklyn N.Y.C. on subway cars. I loved seeing a huge piece on the side of a building and loved seeing the good stuff on the subway cars way back when. It adds to the landscape and ceratinly gives character to otherwise grim and depressing urban areas. More places and more people should be out there using it to beautify the landscape and deliver their message. F - those crAckerJaCkZ who say (in the most nasally of nasal tones) "Uhm, excuse me, but you are breaking the law sir." They are the same lames who will be paying you millions for your work once it becomes "Urban chic" after you hit it big like Kostabi.
