Graffiti Hall

Rap vs. Hiphop?
My daughter went to the Rock And Roll hall of fame this week on a class field trip to "explore the culture of hiphop". She comes home and tells me stuff she did on her trip. She says they taught the difference between hiphop and rap. She said that they said hip hop was a life style (the music fashion speech and graffiti art) while rap was a vocal style. Me and my daughter had an hour long debate over this because i think rap is also a lifestyle what do you think
Rap is the way you sing it, the way you express things, the way you get your voice heard. Hip-hop IS a lifestyle, it is the atmosphere, the energy and is more of a music+style+surroundings kinda thing compared to rap which is all vocals. Rap and hip hop almost always combine to create the rap/hip-hop music you hear today.

Graffiti Hall of Fame - 6/30/07 - Harlem, NYC
how to decorate a hall for a STREET DANCE PARTY.?
Hi, My daughter is going to be 10 and I need to decorate the rather dire village hall for a street dance party. There are a mix of boys and girls coming and a professional street dance teacher. I don't just want balloons but to make it like a kinda 'Street dance set ' (ie. graffiti boards etc) but as I am an old mum, don't know what that would mean any ideas so very welcome!!!) (ps. its this weekend!)>
No, its a party where someone comes and teaches them to 'street dance' they are inside!! not in the street or was that a tongue in cheek question!
How about some fake trees (you may be able to rent these) with a string of lights in each. You could arrange them to look like they are on the side of a street. Even if they are just along one wall. Then behind the trees, on the wall, you could hang plain paper (can be bought in large rolls) and draw or paint store fronts on the paper.
Wouldn't have to be fancy, just a couple of doorways and windows with business names. Then with a couple of the lighted trees in front, it would look like a city block.
If you can handle this, get a 2" brush and some small bottles of acrylic paint from any craft store. Or use extra latex paint that you have at home.
If you have any friends with any painting ability, enlist their help now.
Good Luck
