Choosing a Location for On Site Portrait Photography
There are so many beautiful places to see in Vancouver it is hard to decide what to see first. If you live in Vancouver than you know that it can be hard to decide what to do with all the options for restaurants and entertainment. When you are deciding where to have portrait photos done for whatever reason, there are a few key points to keep in mind.
The first thing to keep in mind when deciding on a portrait photo location is the mood you what to portray in your photo. For a mysterious look you can find many textured walls around town that will make any body's skin look as smooth as a baby's bottom next to the texture of brick or concrete. Unless you are a Graff writer, hip hop dancer or MC it is best to stay away from walls that have graffiti tags on them, these types of photos have been over done and most of the time the colors on the wall blend with the person being photographed.
If you consider yourself a spirited individual with loads of energy there are lots of great parks in Vancouver that will suit your mood. If you like adventure perhaps having a photo shoot in the hills of North Vancouver would best suit you. Having a photo taken with a birds eye view of the city can make a huge impact while not distracting from the purpose of the photograph.
When deciding where to do a photo shoot in Vancouver I think the most important thing to consider is how both you and the photographer are going to get there! It is inconsiderate to assume that your photographer who lives or works in downtown Vancouver is going to be able to drive all the way out to Fort Langley or Abbotsford for no extra cost! Most full time photographers will book more than one shoot a day and it is not always possible for them to dive across town to get to you.
When choosing a location for your photo shoot please remember to be considerate of time constraints and driving conditions on the photographers part and if necessary try to use transit in order to come at least half way. Also consider any cost for admission when going to places like the PNE, Capilano suspension bridge or any other place where regular admission applies. Try to offer some reassurance to shop keepers or people in parks that you mean no harm and will be done as soon as possible. It is always better to make a compromise than to not have the photo shoot at all and perhaps burn some bridges!
