Graffiti City Scene Can you go to jail for filming a graffiti documentary?
ok so i have some friends that are well known graffiti artists in the city of chicago. not your typical taggers hitting up dumpsters these guys go hard theyre the real deal. weve discussed filming a documentary about the underground graffiti scene. there would be interviews with politicians on the subject, interviews with the local artists, live footage of "bombing", etc. i was wondering if the camera man would get in as much trouble as the ones defacing if they were to get caught. i mean ive seen all types of documentaries even some with crackheads and they film a lot of illegal things. did they run the same risk? someone please help me out im not to educated with all the laws and such
Yes. If you film an event that is illegal, you are just as liable as the people who commit the crime because you did nothing to stop it. As an art film you might be "excused", meaning not pursued, but there is NO guarantee. Check out local laws.
