Is there an age limit for being an author?

Hi, well i'm fourteen and I really want to get my books published, but not in one of those, y'know,'put little kids short stories together' books (no offence to those books only I think my books are a bit too long). I usually write five hundred pages and I don't know much about publishing because everyone says different stuff about how it costs money and people my age can't get a book published and be taken seriously.

It all boils down to this:
Is there an age limit to getting books published?
Will publishers/anybody/editors take me seriously? - because no body seems ready to believe that teenagers are capable of more than binge drinking and graffiti/vandalism these days.
Does it cost money? - average amounts here would be great.
Would lots of people enjoy reading books by somebody from a different sort of age group? - I'm really nervous that I'll just be a laughing stock if it does get published.
What is the market like for fantasy books these days?

A 7 year old was published, I published at a young age. Yes some publishers require an age of 14+ or 18+

Some will usually not take you seriously,
You might want to have a parent or guardian with you for that. It also depends on how strong you write, and how serious you are on the matter.

A quart of the publishing population costs money 400-600 dollars here, but real publishers should pay YOU for the money. Some publishers use trickery after publishing say PA: you only get 8% of what you get from others who buy it. Then again they use that money to pay others to waste their time making you a cover.

Its a little complicated so be with someone you know.
