Graffiti Artists Banksy Is creating one of my final GSCE art pieces around the work of Banksy risky?
My art teacher has encouraged me to have a mixture of studies to fall back on, but there is the big issue with is Banksy's work cheeky yet passionate art or mindless scribble? Personally I find that the issues and morals are brilliantly raised and I studied graffiti art twice before. The issue is that if the examiner views Banksy and other artist's work as vandalism, my grade could be put down. Should I risk it?
Bansky is a contreversial artist as it is- is his work a piece of art? is one such example (another being the locations of his works)
however, it sounds like a good idea to centre your work around that of Banksys as it could help to stand you out from the rest of the GCSe art candidates (i did my art gcse 3 years ago and everyone seemed focus their work on andy warhol so i decided to centre mine around someone different).
I dont know how much art gcse has changed from when i did mine 3 years ago, but when i did mine we had to produce research (obviously in an artisitic manner) of the artists we were influenced by in our work. If you can produce a thorough piece of research that shows you know what you want to do (potentially include the fact that you know banksy is bit of a contreversial artist) then i dont see how you could be downgraded for it.
Talk with your art teacher as well as they will probably be more informed about this too.
It wouldn't be in character for British street artist Banksy to reveal all, even in a film about his work--nor would it be legally prudent. Instead, the elusive stencil-master, face concealed via hoodie, shines a light on amateur documentarian Thierry Guetta...

Banksy, Britain's now-legendary "guerilla" street artist, has painted the walls, streets, and bridges of towns and cities throughout the world. Not only did he smuggle his pieces into four of New York City's major art museums, he's also "hung" his work at London's Tate Gallery and adorned Israel's West Bank barrier with satirical images...
Marc Leverton is a Bristol-based writer, and he collects stories about Banksy from the city's residents in Banksy: Myths And Legends. Alongside questionalbe-at-best gossip to old, often-repeated anecdotes that have "beam the stuff of legend," the book also features works of the hoodie-veiled artist in a nice, pocket-sized format.
We are living in a golden age of self-expression. The explosion of user-created content on blogs and social networking sites moved Time magazine to name "You" their 2006 person of the year. But while we may be spending a lot more time in virtual worlds, we have not lost the urge to make our physical world more meaningful...
Banksy vs Dubstep
do cities leave graffiti artist banksy's work alone or do they paint over it eventually?
just curious what happens to the work. i have seen so many pictures of his work that are in busy parts of a city which seems odd that they are left there.
Some have been left, others painted over (some have been restored).
