Graffiti Art Tips
How can i convince my 12 yr old son that grafitti is NOT ART?
My son has an interest in graffiti. He thinks it's art. He looks it up on the internet and at the library. I try to convince him it's illegal and I'm not havin' it. He got in trouble at school for taking permanent markers. I will ransack his room and remove everything. He will also be on punishment.How can I be sure he won't be doing things behind my back. Any tips? only mature answers please.
Grafitti IS a legitimate art form, in the right context. Tagging buildings and other inappropriate locations is illegal.
If he's interested in grafitti-style art, why not get some canvas, large paper, sheets of particle board/ply etc., and some permanent markers, paints, spray paints... and let him go to town in an appropriate space (back/front yard or something like that)...
The art itself is not illegal, just where some people choose to put it.
Maybe your city has space where grafitti is permitted (there are several such sites in our city... these programs are usually away to embrace the art, and deter the illegal placement of it... with mixed results, but it still offers a space to experience it as an art form...)
The way to ensure he's not doing things behind his back is to make it safe for him to communicate with you about them. Stealing isn't ok; vandalism isn't ok. But, perhaps you guys can find some agreement on artistic expression in appropriate places (and with not stolen equipment)? That would go a long way to ensuring that he's up front with you about what he's doing.

POSITIVE EGO….or the positive drive in a human… must be celebrated…
Celebration of positive ego is CELEBRATION OF LIFE….
