My Graffiti Art Is graffiti art or vandalism, and why?
For part of my art project I have to write a bit about people's opinions on whether graffiti is art or vandalism, so what do you think? And can you give reasons and explanations for your answer as well please.
What about mural-type graffiti as opposed to tagging, ie. (sorry to use the obvious example) Banksy? Many of the general public in Bristol campaigned to have his pieces in public places left as they were.
In some places it is very intimidating. What it says is "somebody spent time doing this, to spoil something and to show they control this area and while they did it nobody, including local authorities had the power to or will to do anything about it."
The only time it is art is if it is a publicly commissioned piece of graffiti, done as a project.
Although some graffiti artists think their work is art, it is often destructive and defacing when it is done in an unsuitable space.
Basically most graffiti is little more than the human equivalent of an animal marking its territory with faeces or urine!
I live in the East Midlands and wanted to photograph some graffiti for my Street Photography homework and was wondering where to go for some skilled and colourful graffiti?
Thanks.
i dunno mate but just go for a walk in the town or city. look for underpasses, bridges, any walls, by rivers. go for a bus journey and a train journey and take a look out the windows there's bound to be some around.
