help with art work ideas?

i've had an artwork idea for my year 12 major work (which is unfortunately due in about 12 weeks).
my family is jewish, so i'd like to recreate a scene of the suffering that my grandmother's sister and nephews went through during the holocaust.
I'm going to be using a photograph of a wall from the ghettos of Warsaw, and i'm considering using family images, symbols and spray paint/graffiti to add to the wall. (This will be on a large canvas).

I feel like my idea needs fine tuning as it seems a little unsophisticated... any ideas are appreciated!

How about using shades of black and white. If there is something in the photo or image with like a star of david for example, have that being the only item in color. Or only their eyes be in color, etc... I think it would be really visually stunning to do break the wall down into blocks and overlay the blocks into a collage to give it depth then lay onto the collage, your family images an symbols. Like I said in black and white, the colored images would really pop and focus the artwork.
