Futura Artist Graffiti

how does the rest of the art world feel about graffiti?
i'm referring, mainly to artists like Seen, Cope 2, Futura 2000, Phase 2, etc. more than your run of the mill "tags"
like all art it is a form of expression and art expresses the social experiences of the artist and his/her situation.
"If it's pretty does that make it art" - dont know who said it, but brings to mind the question...."if it's ugly, does that make it art?" and just because it's being expressed, does that mean it should be expressed?
Art what comes from inside the artist. although it may not be seen as being relevant to the rest of us, who may not understand its background.
Personally i dont know those artists u mentioned, i actually know very little about grafitti. But i have never really found it ugly, except in situations when profane language has been used to excess....i think that grafitti artists need to be aware that sometimes their works arent suitable for young children who will see it. Much like todays rap artists.
From the little i know about grafitti, i understand that it DOES have a social relevance, and i for one would not try and restrict that right to expression, but yeah, i go back to the acceptability factor with regard to children.

Walrus TV Artist Feature: Futura Interview from The Run Up
Did the Graffiti artist Dondi really die from AIDS?
Because people keep telling me that he did, if it's true it's sad.
He was one of the best to ever walk the earth or hold a can.
What up to Futura 2000!
yes unfortunately he did
