how can i become a good graffiti artist?

can you give me some tips... (preferred from actuall graffiti artists and how you started..)

also how can i create graffiti in a modern way but also make it have an 1800s theme type thing

hello well first of all i'll just say that i'm not a graffiti artist per se but i have done a lot of work with spray painting...i just don't do it in a public place )
the way i started and what i'd suggest if you are not so good with hand/can control is start with a stencil. you can make your own out of plastic acetate sheets and draw a design on them with a marker and cut out the lines with a stanley knife. then just spray over the top with any colour you want. stencils are good because they take less ability than conventional spraying and look good! you can use the same stencil over and over again if you want.

another less tricky form of street art is using an air gun which you fill with ink and spray. you obviously need an air compressor and an air gun to do this which sucks but it's really good to practice with but unfortunately you cant hulk around a big air compressor when you're decorating the streets.

i would suggest looking at "Banksy" as he is a very well known street and graffiti artist that uses stencils frequently within his work. you can also look at two artists called Ghostpatrol and Miso who do artworks on paper and simply glue them around the streets.

the main thing is to practice a lot and advance your ability. i would definitely start with stencils though, they're easy and they look fantastic. then you could probably progress onto free hand work.
