Will Arizona's new anti-illegals law help save American lives?

"Phoenix Number Two Kidnapping Capital as Drug Cartel Wars Intensify"

http://www.drugaddictiontreatment.com/addiction-news/drug-crimes/phoenix-number-two-kidnapping-capital-as-drug-cartel-wars-intensify/

Horrible images of kidnap victims tortured and held for ransom have long been the norm in Mexico, the number one kidnapping capital of the world. There, judges, police officers and others are targeted by the Mexican drug cartels and abductions are as common as graffiti-marked buildings. But the kidnapping problem has spilled over to the United States, specifically to Phoenix, Arizona.

An L.A. Times story in February 2009 quoted Phoenix police saying that most every victim and suspect is connected to the drug smuggling world, usually tracing back to the Mexican state of Sinaloa. Phoenix police say many come from the Sinaloan towns of Guasave, Leyva, and Los Mochis.

AZ has the right to make the laws they want to and yes I believe the new law will help save American lives.

Having said that the bill will also do other things as well. Perception is reality and the perception about the bill is negative by many and many undocumented people will now be afraid to call the police when crimes happen. This is one of the unintended consequences of the law that will have a negative affect but hey you always have give and take.

The Federal Gov is not addressing the issue so some states are doing it themselves. Oklahoma passed an anti-illegal bill as well but the consequences were economically draining to the State. When Utah passed SB81 they got up in session and said "We need to do what is right whether it hurts the economy or not" In the Utah law, police agencies had the choice to send their officers to the 2 week ICE course so they could receive the authority needed to act in certain circumstances and only a few departments decided to take advantage of that and the rest felt it would undermine their ability to protect and serve if the people could not call the police without fear. There are a few that did send several of their jailers to the training so they could have the needed authority in the jails.

So the answer is yes, it will give police more teeth and authority to deal with the problems they have but the state will also need to deal with the negative press whether the discrimination statements are true or not the bad press will still affect them in their pocketbooks. If your an American Indian and look hispanic or if your a US Citizen that happens to be hispanic you need to carry your proof of citizenship at all times and if you don't have it be ready to be detained. You may be picked up on other charges but held for ICE. Hey I don't mind showing ID because I am a US Citizen but I don't carry my passport, I don't carry my SS card and I don't carry any other proof I am a Citizen and I am glad I am not brown and living in AZ because I would have to start worrying about the possible miss-enforcement of new laws. Sheriff Joe has already proved he will do whatever is needed to get his job done even if it means altering the law references.

Anti War Graffiti 0001

Do you know of any clever, bold anti-war artists like Banksy?

To cut a long story short, I'm doing an art project, and I've looked at Banksy( who I love), and Arabella Dorman (who I find a bit boring). I'm more into graffiti. Does anyone know any artists like Banksy who have bold, humorous, and anti-war or anti-terrorism work? My project is based on terrorism and war. Thanks. x
Thanks, I also just found Shepherd Fairey. That artist you said is pretty interesting though. I like the thing with all the dead soldiers body parts on stretchers. pretty cool. =]

I agree Bansky is phenomenal. But I also admire the anti-war paintings of Irving Norman, whose career as a painter in northern California spanned most of the twentieth century. His work is about as far from graffiti as it is possible to get, so you might have no interest in him. But his huge and precisely detailed apocalyptic images are very compelling. The F.B.I. considered Norman's paintings to be such dangerous critiques of the American military establishment that they considered him a subversive and put him under surveillance for about twenty years.
